ISS National Lab Missions Flown

At 5:42 a.m. EDT Friday, June 29, 2018, SpaceXs Dragon spacecraft lifts off on a Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Dragon is carrying more than 5,900 pounds of research, equipment, cargo and supplies that will support dozens of scientific investigations aboard the International Space Station.

The International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory is enabling a new era of research in space aimed at improving life on Earth. The SpaceX CRS-15 mission includes a variety of payloads representing diverse science investigations, ranging from the life and physical sciences to Earth observation and remote sensing, as well as educational experiments intended to engage and excite the next generation of scientists and engineers.

    SpaceX CRS-15 Mission Overview

    The International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory is enabling a new era of research in space aimed at improving life on Earth. This mission includes a variety of payloads representing diverse science investigations, ranging from the life and physical sciences to Earth observation and remote sensing.

    A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket stands ready for liftoff from Cape Canaveral Air Force Stations Space Launch Complex 40 to boost a SpaceX Dragon resupply spacecraft to the International Space Station. On SpaceXs 15th commercial resupply services mission to the space station, Dragon will deliver critical materials to directly support dozens of science and research investigations that will occur during Expedition 56. The spacecraft also is carrying a new Canadian built Latching End Effector (LEE), which will replace the failed unit astronauts removed during a series of spacewalks in fall 2017.

    Upcoming SpaceX Mission to the International Space Station Loaded with Research

    As part of this mission, SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft will haul approximately 300 kilograms of research and hardware facilities under the ISS U.S. National Laboratory flight allocation representing a diverse mixture of payloads which are intended to benefit life on Earth.

Liftoff was at 5:42 a.m. EDT on Friday, June 29, 2018. On the companys 15th Commercial Resupply Services mission to the International Space Station, Dragon is filled with supplies and payloads, including critical materials to support several science and research investigations that will occur during Expedition 56. The spacecrafts unpressurized trunk is carrying a Canadian built Latching End Effector, or LEE. This new LEE will replace a failed unit astronauts removed during a series of spacewalks in the fall of 2017. Each end of the Canadarm2 robotic arm has an identical LEE, and they are used as the hands that grapple payloads and visiting cargo spaceships.
