In 2005, Congress designated the U.S. orbital segment of the International Space Station (ISS) as a National Laboratory in order to maximize access to the ISS for diverse users, accelerate the commercial development of space, and inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders. The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) was awarded a cooperative agreement in 2011 and tasked with facilitating utilization of the ISS National Lab asset for the benefit of U.S. taxpayers.
In accordance with NASA Cooperative Agreement #80JSC018M005, the ISS National Lab User Advisory Committee (UAC) will provide CASIS with user input and perspective about the management of ISS National Lab resources. The UAC will consist of individuals representing organizations that have formal agreements with either NASA or CASIS (dba the ISS National Lab) to utilize the U.S. segment of the ISS or provide commercial services for the operation of the ISS, including allocations within partner elements or via ISS research sponsored by other governmental agencies.
The UAC will be composed of the individual chairs of the five subcommittees outlined in the Charter below. The UAC will deliberate inputs from each subcommittee in order to monitor, assess, and make recommendations to CASIS regarding effective strategies for the utilization of the ISS National Lab as a platform for education, research, and technology development.
We invite all interested and qualified U.S. persons* to apply for participation in one of the subcommittees (and to indicate their interest in serving as a subcommittee chairperson) by following the steps below.
The User Advisory Committee application deadline has passed. No further applications will be accepted at this time.
Thank you for your interest in participating in the ISS National Lab UAC! For questions regarding this opportunity, please contact info@ISSNationalLab.org.
